Obituary for Harriet Kessler (Zimmerman)

Harriet Kessler (Zimmerman)

KESSLER, Harriet (nee Zimmerman), age 83, of Cherry Hill, died on October 29, 2017.

Born in Queens, New York, Harriet attended Queens College and received her Master of Arts Degree in Linguistics from Columbia University. She settled in the South Jersey area in the 1960's, eventually becoming the editor and general manager of the Jewish Community Voice of Southern New Jersey.

Harriet loved to cook and entertain guests, attend the symphony and theater, read a good book, and participate in movie and book clubs, along with her long-time dinner discussion group, which had recently become more of a lunch group. She was a fan of a good pun, sapphire martinis, and world travel.

She is survived by her children and their spouses who will miss her dearly, Perry and Lara Kessler, and Sybil and Joel Sanchez, her three grandchildren who brought her great joy, Sam and Zak Kessler, and Shprintzy Sanchez, and her remaining niece, nephew, cousins, and extended family. Harriet is predeceased by her sister, Fran Mayberry.

In honor of Harriet's wishes, a celebration of her life will gather in lieu of a funeral. Friends and family are invited to kibitz and share stories on Sunday, November 5, from 11am to 2pm at the Mansion on Main Street in Voorhees. Afterward, the family will sit for one evening of Shiva where all are welcome to visit, at her home from 4pm to 7pm at the Grand Cherry Hill Apartments, 1920 Frontage Road. Donations in Harriet's memory may be made to the ACLU.
